3 Millionen US-Dollar für die Wartung afghanischer Hubschrauber

Deutschland unterstützt den Hubschrauber-Wartungsfonds des NATO-Russland-Rats als größter Geber mit 3 Millionen US-Dollar. Mittels dieses Fonds (Gesamtvolumen von über 7 Millionen US-Dollar) werden Mi-17-Hubschrauber der Afghanischen Nationalarmee gewartet und afghanisches Wartungspersonal geschult. Die Mi-17-Hubschrauber sowie das Wartungsmaterial sind russischer Herstellung, der maßgebliche Teil der Schulungen wird in Russland stattfinden.

Der deutsche NATO-Botschafter Martin Erdmann erklärte hierzu: „Russland und die NATO haben ein gemeinsames Interesse an einem stabilen Afghanistan. Der Hubschrauber-Wartungsfonds ist ein Musterbeispiel dafür, wie dieses gemeinsame Interesse im NATO-Russland-Rat in eine praktische Zusammenarbeit umgesetzt wird, bei der jeder Beteiligte einen wertvollen Beitrag leistet.“

Three Million Dollars Earmarked for Maintenance of Afghan Helicopters

Germany is supporting the NATO-Russia Council’s Helicopter Maintenance Trust Fund with three million dollars, making it the largest contributor. The fund, which has a total volume of over 7 million dollars, is used to maintain the Afghan National Army’s Mi-17 helicopters and to train Afghan maintenance personnel. Both the Mi-17 helicopters and the replacement parts are produced in Russia, where most of the training will also take place.
